Fond is made and operated by Starfall HQ, Inc., which is responsible for the data described here.

Fond has no accounts. We do not ask for your name or email, we show no ads, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising or track you across other apps and sites.

What stays on your iPhone

• Your voice. Speech is turned into text on the phone by Apple’s speech recognition; audio is never sent to us.
• Your cookbook: saved recipes, ratings and dish photos.
• What Fond remembers about your kitchen, your tastes and what you have learned. You can read and clear it in the app.

What is sent to produce an answer

When you ask Fond something, the app sends our server the text of the conversation, the recipe you are cooking, Fond’s notes about your kitchen, and any photo you chose to send with the question. Our server passes these to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the reply. We do not keep the conversation or the photos on our server once the reply is sent. Anthropic processes them under its commercial terms, does not use them to train its models, and deletes them after a limited period.

Please do not tell Fond things you would not want processed this way, such as health details beyond the allergies needed to cook safely.

What we keep

• A random identifier the app creates for your phone, with a count of the recipes it has started. This is how the three free cooks and fair-use limits work. It is not linked to your name or Apple ID.
• If you subscribe, Apple’s transaction identifier for the subscription and the phone identifiers using it. Apple handles payment; we never see your card.
• Short-lived technical logs of requests, such as time and errors, kept by our hosting provider.

Who processes data for us

• Anthropic (the AI model that writes replies)
• Vercel (hosting for our server and this website)
• Upstash (the database holding the counts above)
• Apple (subscriptions and speech recognition on your phone)

Some of these companies are in the United States, so data may be processed outside your country.

Your choices

Deleting the app removes your cookbook, photos and notes from the phone. To have the identifier and counts we hold deleted, or to ask what we hold, write to hello@cookwithfond.com. If you are in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Fond is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and its date.
